WCYO in the community!

WCYO in the community!

WCYO sent 3 string ensembles throughout the county last semester.  The YO and JO groups performed for residents at local retirement centers:  The Manor at Steeplechase, Morningside of Franklin, and Legacy Crossing Retirement Community.  They also performed for shoppers at The Factory in Franklin and at community events:  Dickens of a Christmas and the Brentwood Library’s Lighting of the Tree.  The RO performed at Mama’s Java to a packed coffee shop. Thank you to all these places for their invitations to perform!  It was great fun and a wonderful experience for all of these talented musicians.

This spring WCYO small ensembles will be performing at various places around the county again and will come together for a series of performances at an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social at Nolensville’s Feed Mill in April. They will also have an opportunity to attend a Solo & Ensemble event which is organized by the Middle TN School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA). To wrap up the year these JO and YO groups will experience a recording session at Ocean Way Recording Studios. It’s all good! To join the fun check the WCYO web-calendar regularly for updates … look under INFORMATION / CALENDAR.

Regions’ Free Day of Music

Regions’ Free Day of Music

The Williamson County Youth Orchestra was honored with an invitation to perform at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Laura Turner Concert Hall, during the Regions’ Free Day of Music on Oct 1, 2011. This was an amazing opportunity for WCYO Youth Orchestra students and there was some uncertainty as to whether or not the opportunity could be accepted or not. With the help of a grant from NISSAN of North America additional rehearsals were lined up along with a rehearsal venue … an exciting, YES!, but one which jumped started the WCYO concert season by adding 6 weeks worth of rehearsals prior to the official beginning of the season.

This is the first year that the WCYO has begun a concert season with a full orchestra. In the past the Youth Orchestra has performed as a string orchestra until band students joined them in November after the close of the marching band season. In the end it all came together beautifully with 66 high school musicians thrilled to be on stage at the Schermerhorn!

Beginner RO Holiday Concerts

Beginner RO Holiday Concerts

The Beginner Reading Orchestra performed 2 holiday concerts in Nolensville this year. The first was by invitation of Mama’s Java, a local coffee shop. The students gathered at their normal rehearsal venue, Nolensville First Baptist Church, for a run through on Thursday, Dec 15, and then headed out to Mama’s Java. The patrons enjoyed a 20 minute concert from these 23 young budding musicians after which family members stayed around to visit and enjoy some refreshments.

The second concert was on Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Nolensvile First Baptist Church on Clovercorft Drive.  Following the concert the church hosted a potluck for all the attendees.  Thank you to members of the Nolensville First Baptist Church for their hospitality in opening their doors for WCYO beginner programming.

Vet’s Day Parade

Vet’s Day Parade

Several members of the Williamson County Beginner Reading Orchestra participated in the Nolensville Veterans’ Day Parade on Saturday, November 5.  They gathered at the back of Martin’s Bar-B-Que at 10am and began the one hour walk at 11am.  The parade route was lined with many Nolensville residents showing their support for American veterans.  What a beautiful day to be outside!  Thank you to Heather Bell who organized the float for the students and to the other parents who participated.
