About Us

Purpose

The Williamson County Youth Orchestra (WCYO) was founded in August 1997 for the purpose of providing high quality musical training and educational opportunities for young musicians in Williamson County and surrounding areas. The organization is comprised of three performing ensembles that rehearse once a week from September until May. The Junior String Orchestra is made up of students in grades 5 – 8. The Youth String and Full Orchestras are comprised of 70-80 highly motivated and talented high school musicians. They perform a variety of musical styles, enriching their musical experiences and promoting a life-long appreciation for the arts. The WCYO is a 501(C)3 organization.

Vision Statement

The Williamson County Youth Orchestra envisions young people achieving their fullest potential educationally, musically and socially while enriching their lives and positively influencing their families and communities. We seek to preserve musical tradition while embracing the present and shaping the future.

Mission Statement

The Williamson County Youth Orchestra seeks to encourage musical excellence by providing superior musical training and a variety of performance opportunities for young musicians in Williamson County and surrounding areas. We believe that playing music together supports community among diversity enriching the lives of young people while encouraging a life-long love of the arts.


About the conductors

Anna Maria Miller

Anna Maria Andrews Miller is in her eighth year as Strings and Full Orchestra Director at Croft Middle Design Center. A native Pennsylvanian, Mrs. Miller received her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Duquesne University. Melissa Edgington

Melissa Edgington began studying violin at a young age. She attended the University of South Carolina and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with emphasis in Instrumental Music Education. Mrs. Edgington has taught at the University of South Carolina String Project (1999 – 2003), was a participant in the USC Symphony, the Lake Murray Symphony, and was the full-time orchestra director at Fulmer Middle School (2003-2006)…

Stephanie Anne Dickinson

Stephanie Anne Dickinson began developing her passion for music at a young age. Growing up in a musical family, she was encouraged to become part of the family band as early as possible, and made her stage debut singing “Jesus Loves Me” and “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at age 4. She then began violin lessons at age 5, and found her true performance instrument, the double bass, by the time she was 9…
