NOW ENROLLING for the Nolensville Beginner Reading Orchestra through October 8.
The Williamson County Youth Orchestra (WCYO) is expanding its programming to offer beginner strings classes starting in the 2010-2011 school year. The Beginner Reading (Strings) Orchestra is for students in 3rd through 6th grades who have little or no previous instruction on a violin, viola, and/or cello.
The Beginner Reading Orchestra (RO) is designed to give group instruction in violin, viola and cello to students in 3rd-6th grades with little to no training on their instruments. This new initiative is scheduled to roll out over 5 years throughout Williamson County beginning in the fall of 2010. Each class in this program will have a 2 year cycle, at the completion of which a student will be ready to audition for the Junior Orchestra or a bridging string orchestra (to be assessed as the program develops).
Learning to play an instrument and belonging to an orchestra opens up a whole new world of friendship and fun! Orchestra provides a great foundation for your child in all aspects of life. In addition to music, students learn self-discipline, group cooperation, problem solving, goal setting, self-expression, memory skills, concentration, poise, enhanced physical coordination, high self-esteem, and the importance of teamwork – skills in great demand. Like all the arts, music has a profound effect on the academic success of students as well.
To register your 3-6th grader, please complete the “Audition Registration” form (no auditions for these students). Please see the attached RO calendar and information sheet.
