Harry Potter Hallows Ball
On Friday, July 20, nine string students performed music from the Harry Potter movie series at the Borders Books in Cool Springs. Borders held an evening of in-store promotions celebrating the release of the seventh and last HP book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows." A crowd of approximately 600-800 jammed the store to receive the new book at 12:01 AM when it was released nationwide, with many of the attendees in full HP costume. This event was the second HP event the student string ensemble has performed for this summer, beginning with an HP movie premier on July 10. Our special thanks to Amanda McDonald, Borders Sales Manager for hosting our group and the Music and Arts Store of Cool Springs for providing warmup and rehearsal facilities.

Harry Potter Movie Premier
On July 10/11, nine students created a string ensemble to perform at the Carmike Thoroughbred 20 Theater in Franklin. Students entertained theater guests as they arrived for the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Over 3,000 persons attended the Franklin premier on multiple screens. Music selections included string arrangements from previous Harry Potter movies. Midnight screenings of the film grossed over $12M nationwide. We got to see lots of friends there and be a part of a very electric evening! Our special thanks to Brandon Gregory of the Carmike Thoroughbred 20 Cinema for hosting our group.

Parent Meeting
January 8, 2007 kicked off with a parent meeting at Ravenwood HS. Over 200 parents and students attended.

Brentwood United Methodist Church
December 2006 was a busy month for the strings of the Youth Orchestra. On Dec. 11 we performed at the Brentwood United Methodist Church with 25 musicians. The church was all trimmed out for Christmas and provided a wonderful visual and musical setting.

Frist Center for the Arts
On Dec. 16 the strings were the guests of the Frist Center for the Arts, in downtown Nashville. The Frist Center is the premier art museum of Tennessee and offers opportunities for student and adult ensembles to perform in their Auditorium. As guests of the Frist Center we were also treated to a viewing of their current 20th century art exhibits following the concert.

Assisted Living Center Caroling
After the Dec. 16 Frist Concert, ten students from the strings went caroling at two assisted living centers in Franklin. The group played Christmas carols for residents at Benton House and Legacy Crossing Assisted Living Centers. Several of the students took solos while we played and the residents were most appreciative. Thanks especially to moms and dads who provided shuttle transportation.

Concert at Williamson County Library
On October 29 the WCYO combined with local Suzuki string students coodinated by Jeanette Long for an afternoon concert. Over 100 persons attended the concert held at the Williamson County Library.
